Ms.Lopez: I champion your right to creative expression (as I do for all artists,
no matter their gender, ethnicity, age, race, lifestyle, etc), and your art
is great! I am a Chicano art historian living in Texas and have included the
Sante Fe "inquistion" in my recent manuscript. Way past cool!
ciao.

Hello Alma. My name is Jillian Hernandez and
I am an Art History student in Miami, Fl. I also work in documentary film,
digital photography, and video art of my own. Mainly collaborating with my
best friend (and ex-girlfriend) Yesenia Serra. We deal with feminist issues
in the Hispanic context. We are both from Caribbean descent. Her family is
from Cuba, mine from Cuba + Puerto Rico.
I just found your website while searching for
some of Yolanda Lopez's work online for a feminist philosophy paper I have
to write. However, I find your work to be extremely interesting and important.
I have also read (and Love) Sandra Cisneros' essay Guadalupe the Sex Goddess.
I don't think I've related to a piece of text as much as that essay in my
life. I think your work captures the re-thinking of Marian imagery, and making
an icon that is used to repress women to liberate them.
I think it is especially important to represent Latina lesbian and bi-sexual
women. Our culture is deathly afraid of us. It is neccesary to put these images
in a social context so that we gain visiblity and hopefully- equality + respect.
Next year I will be writing my Thesis, and I
have been thinking of writing about Hispanic women artists dealing w/ feminist
issues in digital media. Your work is perfect for this! Please send me any
articles that have been written about your work, I would need to show my professors
as much information as possible.
Don't stop creating from the Vulva!
