Ms Lopez,
I wanted to express my admiration for your piece which I recently saw while in Santa Fe during Indian Market weekend.  Raised Catholic in Colorado I admittedly have a limited understanding of the Virgen de Guadelupe's significance to Californian/Southwestern Latina's cultural identities, but I did find your piece illuminating.

Her face and entire body just emenate power.  Reading your comments about the work, I have gained additional appreciation for your appropriation of the cultural icon to speak to contemporary latina experience.  And I must say I was surprised by how much opposition you have faced in Santa Fe.  I was moved by your piece and the exhibit as a whole.  I want you to know that you have my full support as a citizen dedicated to free speech -- and particuarly speech too easily silenced by mainstream or masculinist forces.  Let me know if there is anything I can to do lend my support more directly.  For now, I'm sending a link of your site and your piece to my feminista friends at CU Denver.
