Catholics Rally in Defense of Our Lady of Guadalupe (Oakland Museum)
TFP Student Action ^ | May 4th, 2011 | Robert Ritchie
Posted on May 15, 2011 12:54:24 PM PDT by bronxville

Peaceful Protest Launched Against Impure Blasphemy. Send your instant e-protest message to the Oakland Museum of California.

It is deeply painful to report that Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Americas, is impurely blasphemed at the Oakland Museum of California. The Oakland Museum of California is hosting an art exhibit that includes a digital portrait of Our Lady of Guadalupe wearing a bikini, held aloft by a topless woman-angel!

And unfortunately, it will be on public display until May 29!

We cannot sit by idly and do nothing about this awful blasphemy! We must do reparation and lift up our voices in peaceful and prayerful protest.

Send the museum your instant e-protest message

How do you know it's her? Sounds like it's just an image to me.

So where is La Raza and those Mexican kids demonstrating ?

wow..if this was Mohamed and his child bride in bikinis?

How shameful. I grew up in the Bay Area and have good memories of the Oakland Museum. Learned California history there, in the 70s.

When will the junior-high kids in the art world be put in their place? Aren’t people tired yet of “statement” art that is offensive? Somebody should tell this “artist” that if she wants to offend people with religion, the guy with the elephant dung madonna and the guy who did piss Christ are 20 years ahead of her.

If she really wanted to do something original, she should try making an uplifting, inspiring statement of virtue in a visual form. Of course, that’s already been done, too, on the original mantilla of Juan Diego, but it hasn’t been done lately, and we could use some more of it.

Agreed- Absolutely on point. Where is Muslim-sensitive Obama who even refused to make public the pics of Osama’s death?
Is there a phone and contact to make the protest?

What does the petition ask for? Artwork that "purely blasphemes" her?

Well said...though her agenda appears to be taken directly from the La Raza website so don’t think we’ll see to many of them around.

Agenda - feminism, queer theory, colonialism, and Chicano nationalism.

Well, it could be a lot worse. But this is, I assume, a city museum, so this type of “art,” paid for by all Oaklanders or possibly even all Californians, shouldn’t be there.

Let them go out and be “transgressive” in a private gallery. As for Our Lady, I think she’s tough enough to stand up to a caricature, and I’m sure she’s still praying for them all.

I would love to see an American Catholic of Mexican heritage coming on Bill Oreilly or whoever and denouncing this!Or a citizen of Guadalupe denouncing this!

The Bamster will NEVER defend Christianity...

I don’t support this so-called “art,” but how is it blasphemy?

This woman is not God.

She is recognized as the Mother of God. So if she is not God it is OK to disgrace her?

“So if she is not God it is OK to disgrace her?”

I don’t think it is ok to disgrace anyone.

But I don’t think it’s blasphemy. I think blasphemy can be done against God alone, if I understand the term.

I agree - as a Catholic who has a picture of San Juan Diego and Our Lady of Guadalupe on my dining room wall. (We’re from Texas.)

It’s irreverance, but it’s not blasphemy, unless one takes the interpretation that it’s an image of Mary while pregnant with Jesus to a bit of an extreme.

What the picture mostly is is boring and lacking in artistic merit. Irreverence (or blasphemy) is the first refuge of the un-talented “artist.”

Sent my protest... and forwarded a request to every Catholic I know...

Too bad that 9.0 quake and massive tsunami hit Japan... and missed a profoundly more deserving target. Let us hope Divine justice will not be witheld from this blasphemous city of reprobates.

Jim R. should find a different base of operations for FR, and leave this miserable excuse of a state to its well-earned fate... at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.
