April 10, 1930

 

Dolores Huerta was born in northern New Mexico.

1955
She along with others founded the stockton chapter of CSO, Community Service Organization.
1960
Dolores organized and founded the Agricultural Workers Association.
1961
Dolores lobbied in Sacramento for citizenship requirements and public assistance programs.
1962

She lobbied for an end to captive labor in the Bracero program.

She met Ceasar Chavez, her partner in activism, and together they formed the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA).

1963
Dolores lobbied for Aid For Dependent Families ("AFDC"), for the unemployed and underemployed, and disability insurance for farm workers in the State of California.
1965
The NFWA joined with the AWOC,Agricultual Workers Organizing Committee, and participated in the "Delano Grape Strike" that demanded higher wages.
1966

Members of the NFWA and the AWOC joined together and merged to form the United Farm Workers Organizing Committee UFWOC.

In 1966, Dolores negotiated the first UFWOC contract with the Schenley Wine Company.This paved the way for more farmworker contracts creating the first health benefits.

1974
She lobbied in securing unemployment benefits for farmworkers.
1975
Dolores lobbied against federal guest worker programs and worked hard with legislation to grant amnesty for farm workers that had lived, worked, and paid taxes in the United States for many years but were unable to enjoy the privileges of citizenship.
1984
Dolores received the Outstanding Labor Leader Award from the California State Senate.
1990
She received honorary doctorate degree from New College of San Francisco
1993

Dolores was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame

She received the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Roger Baldwin Medal of Liberty Award and the Eugene V. Debs Foundation Outstanding American Award, and the Ellis Island Medal of Freedom Award.

She received honorary doctorate degree from San Francisco State University.

1998

She received the Consumers’ Union Trumpeter’s Award.

She was one of three Ms. Magazine’s, "Women of the Year", and the Ladies Home Journal’s, "100 Most Important Women of the 20th Century".

1999

Dolores received honorary doctorate degree from S.U.N.I. New Palz University.

President Bill Clinton presented her with the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award.
